Tax-exempt!

6/26/2012

Wow!  We worked hard this Spring filling out forms, making arrangements, and doing all of the little legal things that need to be done when setting up a 'charity'.  We've now been informed that ASAPH Teaching Ministry is a tax-exempt organization recognized by the IRS according to the 501(c)3...whatchamacallits.

ASAPH Teaching Ministry isn't just an idea any more.  We're moving ahead and ministering to people in this rural Haitain community with each and every lesson.

Keep praying for the ministry...see the prayer page.

AND, share this website/blog/information with someone you know who might be interested...especially teachers, ministers, students, nice people, round people, people with shoulders...you get the picture.

Looking forward more and more to July 17th...launch date.

Read this past week about how the Pharisees were doing 'fake worship of God' earlier in the book of Mark.  By the time Christ was on the cross, it was mock worship of Him.  Practice TRUE WORSHIP...as Asaph wrote in Psalm 50, it's living a thankful, obedient life.

Summer!

Ahh!  Summer.  Swimming pools, air conditioners...or not.  We're dealing with the heat here in sunny Haiti.  I've been to the ocean only once or twice since I've been back in Haiti.  I'll get there more now that summer vacation has arrived.  We made it through the longes day of the year the other day.  It was light enough to play horseshoes at 8:00 in the evening.  That's as late as the sun will ever go down here close to the equator, you know.   You northerners get much more of the swing from long days to short days each year.

The WFL school ended testing yesterday.  The other schools in the area had finished already, so now kids are left to wait for their results...pass?  or fail?

The good people from Water For Life came and used a Bobcat front loader thing to level and clean the land where the steel buildings will be.  Now we'll mark the buildings, make frames, and pour cement slabs in order to be ready when they arrive...hopefully early in July.

Our church is having a week of services from June 24 to July 1.  The theme is 'Practicing True Love'...or there abouts.  Help us pray that it will be a week of growth for the Christians in our town.

Then, a group of our church's youth is hosting a concert on July 1st.  They have prepared some very good music for the afternoon and will have a guest band from another church in the area as well.  I get to play keyboard on a song I wrote, and trumpet on another song.  I hope to record some of it and put it on the program for ASAPH CONCERT #2...in PA!

I ordered about 1500 ribbons (10 different colors) that we'll start using (as soon as they get here in the mail) to reward young people who will be memorizing Bible verses.  It was an effective program years ago.  These ribbons are printed with ASAPH Bible Academy and Psalm 119:150.  Lets plant the powerful Word of God in the hearts of young people!  It's life changing.

Enjoy some fresh strawberries there in PA...and the humidity, too.  :)

Follow God!

Moving In, Malaria, More

June!  Summer.  Long days.  I moved into the new room on June 1st.  The sleeping is preeeeetty good.  Five big windows and a high ceiling are key.  I'm so glad we added the extra foot or two up above my head.  :)    The front porch is fabulous.  It's great in the mornings (I can watch the sun come up over some trees and a hill).  It's great in the evenings and nights.

One thing I realized late one night:  My house doesn't have a hiding place.  The windows are so big and spaced out around the house that there is no place to be in the house w/o being somewhat exposed to the outside...the windows are high enough that people could only see in if they made an extra effort to do so, but still.  You always try to outsmart thieves and criminals.  I'm working on a plan to create a 'safety zone' inside the house.

I had a touch of malaria, I think.  I had the fever and dramatic head-ache, but then it went away so quickly.  The dreariness and fatique did hang around for about 4 days.  Either way, I regretted missing my anti-malaria medicine the week before I got the fever.  Hind sight, you know.

Only one month and a few days from Launch Day...July 17th.  I'm ready for all practical purposes.  Just a matter of waiting until the day arrives.  We've yet to hear from the IRS as to our tax-exempt status.  Hopefully that'll fall into place this month.  The steel buildings are still in the US.  Here's hoping they come to Haiti ASAP...H!

In Mark, Jesus talks about how the people of Nazareth (Jesus' hometown) let what little they knew about Jesus hang them up.  They couldn't get around the bits of info they had about him in order to come to belief.  Don't let what you know about Him (or have heard about Him) hold you back.  Get to know Him personally!
