For the past few years I've been relying on cell tower signals for internet access here in rural Haiti. It's like relying on blue skies for rain.
Early in the summer, I signed a contract with NATCOM to install a cable that would give me reliable internet access. (Thanks, Kevin S. for making it all happen.) It took a while, but finally the men showed up and connected a tiny fiber optic cable to my house. Thanks to that tiny plastic cable, I am online right now, typing on my laptop and about to send these lines onto the website DIRECTLY FROM MY HOUSE IN PASBWADOM. This is a great step. It's intimidating in that I'll now have to judge what deserves time on-line and what doesn't. I've been obliged over the past few years to ride on the back of a motorcycle in order to send or receive an email! It sounds like dark ages kind of stuff, but it's what we had to do. :) I'm glad those days are perhaps behind me. I'm thankful for the new setup. Look forward to this website being up-to-date in the future. No more waiting until I am in the USA or sending things via third party for updates. Yea!
