I flew home on February 19th with hopes of setting up a concert for March 15. Well, the concert was indeed set up. As things regarding COVID-19 became serious, the concert weekend rolled around. Schools were closed and healthcare people were already told to avoid crowds. The concert would be that last activity before the church's official shut-down. Well, we decided to cancel.
By God's grace, I was at home here in PA with two big translating projects on my desk. I finished up a series of 42 Bible lessons for C.A.M. in March as well as bi-monthly magazine. I trudged through several chapters of a book called RESTORING THE SOIL. It is a fascinating book that details many ways a farmer can improve his land output. That is what people in PBO and all over Haiti need! It's technical, and thereby slow translating, but should be a valuable tool for farmers. This month I received my copies of a book I translated last year...FARMING THAT BRINGS GLORY TO GOD. I think it can help transform how people live off of the land...which is what most people in our community do. I can't wait to see it in the hands of people. Travel into Haiti is blocked right now. It is hard to know what the real situation is in Haiti regarding the virus. There is no real testing, I don't think. There is no real plan. Haiti will have more funerals, and life will go on. I am hoping, perhaps, that flights will begin in late May. I will wait to see how things are going before committing. Lots of people in Haiti are stressed about the idea that "the big virus" is coming from Americans. So, it is worth being extra careful. I talk almost every day to people in Haiti. I haven't spoken to anyone who has experienced anything more than high prices and a lack of certain supplies.
