ASAPH
Branches of Ministry

Picture
The ASAPH Brass Band is composed of musicians who meet certain standards of musical performance ability. The band includes trumpets, mellophones, trombones, tubas, and percussion.

The band is led by a committee of elected band members. The committee works together with the director (Andy) and assistant director (Teddy) to steer the band.

Performances include parades, weddings, funerals, other special services and ceremonies plus concerts.

The "B" Band is basically the feeder program for the ASAPH Brass Band. It includes players who are less experienced and are working toward a level of performance ability that will allow them to participate in the ASAPH Brass Band.

The "B" Band is often directed by ASAPH music students and developing directors.

AAF (Asaph Academy of Football) is a team for players 18-years-old and older. Most of the players developed in ASAPH's younger team. All of the players are required to pass a soccer rules exam and a Bible exam in order to be team members.

AAF plays friendly matches with other area teams and participates in local tournaments. The team is led by a committee of leaders from within the team, along with elected team captains, coaches that come from within the team, and ASAPH's Assistant Administrator, WEC.

AAF Jr. is the developmental team and the focus of ASAPH's soccer ministry. These are players under the age of 18. They are coached by players from the senior team.

Members of this team study the 17 FIFA laws of soccer and the Biblical presentation of what it means to be a man. Coaching these players includes following academic their performance, family relationships, and spiritual growth.

ASAPH's girl's choir (AVJF) are high-school women who sing together to the glory of God. They come from various congregations, and they sing unison, two-part harmony, and three-part harmony.

This group, less than three years old, is led by elected members who have planned, organized, and directed a major concert. Andy serves the group as director, but young members are developing in that role.

ASAPH AGRICULTURE is a new and exciting branch of ministry. Under the direction of Courtois Erntz (WEC), the program is producing food and trees that will bless the community of Pasbwadom.

ASAPH has rented land in the "garden areas" of our town. That land allows us to experiment with and teach newer farming techniques, and to compare them with traditional techniques.

ASAPH AGRICULTURE takes advantage of opportunities to include young people, to encourage agriculture, and to recognize successful farmers in the local community.

The ASAPH Bible Academy is a ten-level program of Bible verses and lists that students study on their own and then recite under ASAPH's supervision. Each level has its own color of ribbon. Students work to collect all ten, and are rewarded with their own Bible.

Participation in the ASAPH Bible Academy is the door to participation in other ASAPH activities like music lessons and team membership. All ASAPH students and leaders, young and old, are encouraged to participate in this program.

The ASAPH Academy of Music is a program for tomorrow's musicians. Students begin with solfege and music theory. They then move into recorder lessons. From there, successful students can choose a brass instrument, percussion, guitar, or keyboard.

Students are required to pass proficiency tests in order to advance in the program.

Many ASAPH musicians serve as teachers in this program, sharing what they learned at ASAPH with younger students.

The ASAPH English Club is an "on again / off again" group of people who meet in order to practice English dialogue. Members organize the meetings and prepare topics of discussion.

Because pronunciation is a major hurdle for many Haitians who are learning to speak English, Andy's presence in the club is valuable to the other members.

The ASAPH LEADERSHIP TEAM is a group of people who meet one Friday each month to study Biblical leadership. The group has studied the book of Nehemiah in order to understand the qualities of leadership that produce good results.

This group includes soccer coaches, music teachers, directors of groups, and committee members.

The group allows time to share experiences and evaluate performance.

A new project for ASAPH is seminars and "regular" training for young music teachers and conductors. There are about 10 young people at ASAPH who show promise as music teachers. ASAPH is working to give them the foundation they need (music theory, music history...) and experiences that allow them to become competent in the field.

Tropic-Asaph is basically a pop band that focuses on "Haitian Oldies", especially classic Christian music from past generations. It includes a rhythm section, horns, and voices.

The ASAPH BLUES is a group that introduces musicians to American jazz and improvisation. It includes rhythm section, horns, and voices.
